Meet the Photographer Behind the Lens:
Ashleigh B Photography
Whidbey Island Family, Couples & Lifestyle Photographer
Hi there! I’m Ashleigh — a Montana native, now capturing heartfelt moments on the beautiful Whidbey Island in Washington.
Raised in Missoula, MT, I grew up surrounded by love, creativity, and an appreciation for life’s little details. From family road trips to digging through photo albums at my aunt’s house, I developed a deep love for photography early on. Today, I’m proud to turn that passion into a business that helps families like yours preserve fleeting, magical moments through storytelling imagery.
From Montana to Whidbey Island
We moved to Whidbey Island just a couple of years ago for my husband’s job, and I instantly fell in love with this incredible community. The natural beauty here — from lush forests to rocky shorelines — reminds me of childhood vacations and classic movies like The Goonies. It’s the perfect backdrop for families, couples, and kids to connect, laugh, and just be themselves.
As a mother, I know how precious those candid, in-between moments are — the ones you wish you could freeze in time. That’s why my sessions are centered around connection, comfort, and natural play.
My Photography Philosophy
I’ve been a professional photographer for over eight years. I started by managing a JCPenney Portrait Studio before launching my own business to pursue a more personal, heartfelt approach to photography.
Studio environments often feel rushed and impersonal — especially for little ones. I wanted to create an experience where families could feel seen, heard, and celebrated. My sessions are relaxed, lightly directed, and built around genuine interaction — whether we're exploring a beach at sunset or capturing cozy moments in your home.
Why Photography Means So Much to Me
My love for photography is deeply rooted in family. My grandmother and aunts always had their cameras out, capturing birthdays, holidays, and quiet moments. I used to carry a disposable camera everywhere — eventually upgrading to a point-and-shoot, then a digital, then teaching myself to shoot and develop film.
In high school, I learned how to develop film in a darkroom and fell even deeper in love with the process. I even made my own pinhole camera and spent college collecting vintage gear, learning new techniques, and constantly growing as an artist.
That passion still fuels me today. I continue to take workshops and classes to stay inspired and give my clients the very best experience possible.

Family First — Even for the Photographer
As a photographer, I’m almost always the one behind the lens — and honestly, that’s where I feel most at home. But every now and then, I have to pause and remind myself: These moments matter for me too.
I don’t jump in front of the camera often, but I’m learning to embrace it. Because one day, I want my son — and future generations — to look back and see me. To flip through albums and feel that same spark I used to feel as a kid when digging through boxes of old photographs. That sense of belonging, of legacy, of love.
There’s something deeply powerful about printing your photos and displaying them throughout your home. When your children grow up surrounded by images of themselves and their family — laughing, exploring, playing — it builds connection and confidence. It tells them: You are loved. You belong. Your story matters.
That’s the heart behind my work. I don’t just want to take pretty photos — I want to help you fill your home with meaning.
Embracing the Grain — In Photos and in Life
If you’ve looked through my work, you’ve probably noticed a little bit of grain in some of my images — and I love it. Sometimes, it’s a stylistic choice that adds character and emotion. Other times, it’s just what’s needed when shooting in low light and capturing a fleeting moment that matters.
To me, that grain represents something more — the beautiful imperfections of life. Right now, as I write this, my son is just days away from becoming a teenager. It’s a wild and wonderful ride we’re stepping into, and I’m soaking up every second. Watching him grow into who he’s meant to be is one of the greatest privileges of my life. I want to give him all the tools he needs to thrive, but most of all, I want him to know he’s always supported and deeply loved — even when life gets a little grainy.
Photography has always been my way of making time stand still — especially as a mother. And that brings me back to why I do what I do.
Want to Work Together?
Whether you’re new to Whidbey Island or a longtime local, I’d love to tell your story. My sessions are relaxed, candid, and centered around connection — not perfection. Let’s take a walk, chase the light, and make some memories.
Let’s create your legacy, one frame at a time.
